Murau and the Region — Summer and Winter

Murau experience region.

The Murau experience region impresses with glorious nature and striking culture — and both are reflected in the variety of excursion destinations. Holiday guests can choose, for example, from numerous museums on the subject of wood, which illustrate the importance of the raw material in Austria’s most heavily forested region. And the ‘Brauerei der Sinne’ right next door on Raffaltplatz is, quite literally, an award-winning beer experience. find out more

Summer.

The region’s impressive natural backdrop invites you to get active while enjoying the beauty of the Styrian mountains. Classics such as hiking, cycling and mountain biking top the list — numerous well-signposted paths and tours offer ideal conditions for beginners and experienced athletes alike.

In addition, activities such as golf on well-kept courses or motorcycling on winding panoramic roads provide extra variety. Anyone looking for special experiences will also get their money’s worth: rafting, paragliding or 3D archery turn a summer holiday in Murau into a real adventure.

Winter.

In winter, the mountain giants towering into the sky are transformed into a winter-sports paradise. Skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing — there are no limits to a day full of adventure. The mood is comparatively calm with gentle winter sports such as ski touring or winter walking. Away from the hustle and bustle on the pistes, the winter landscape can be discovered at a relaxed pace. Those who prefer to be active in the valley in the cold season can make use of the generous cross-country offer with 20 trails and a network of 170 kilometres. These include several routes that have been awarded the Styrian cross-country trail quality seal.

Kreischberg: 42 kilometres of pistes, 13 lifts and cable cars.

Lachtal: another ski area in the Murau region.

Mur cycle path.

Fun on two wheels for the whole family is guaranteed on the popular Mur cycle path R2, which follows the River Mur through varied scenery — 365 kilometres in total through Styria. Brauhaus zu Murau is located directly on the Mur cycle path. The Murau region welcomes mountain bikers, road cyclists and leisure cyclists with a varied network of routes; ambitious bikers follow the trails up to the Grebenzen, the Kreischberg, the Frauenalpe or the Hochwald.

We offer our guests on two wheels free storage for their bikes in our own underground car park. Stop for a cool beer in the cosy beer garden and relax in our rooms and in the wellness area to prepare for the next stage. Plan your next trip directly with us — give us a call or write to us.
